Britain’s Horse Race Levy Board has launched a consultation into whether certain users of betting exchanges should be liable to make Levy contributions, a move described as “very surprising” by leading betting exchange Betfair, which last year voluntarily contributed £7.5m to the Levy Board. The company responded by stating that it will be redirecting over £1m away from the Levy Board and directly into British racing in order to “deliver real benefits to the sport”.
